Magellan Jets and golf star Dustin Johnson’s LIV Golf team have combined in an exclusive global private jet partnership.

Two-time major winner Johnson flies exclusively with Magellan and has recruited 4Aces team-mates Patrick Reed, Pat Perez and Harold Varner III to promote the company and host experiences for its customers.

“Dustin Johnson is highly recognized as one of the best golfers in the world and one of the most knowledgeable and seasoned private fliers in all of sports,” said Joshua Marc Hebert, founder and CEO of Magellan Jets.  “As with many tour players and professional athletes, we appreciate Dustin’s loyalty to Magellan Jets.”

Johnson, the 2016 US Open champion and 2020 Masters winner, said his time is at a “premium” between golf, business and family and described the partnership as the “perfect fit”.

“I committed to being a Magellan Jets cardholder because I trust its personalised service and range of aircraft,” said Johnson, who is from South Carolina but lives in Florida.

“My team at Magellan always goes the extra mile to ensure the comfort and safety of my family and the 4Aces on every trip.”

Magellan Jets recently became the private aviation provider of the Boston Red Sox and hired Todd Goldstein to expand its sports and entertainment division.

The company offers jet card ownership, membership, on-demand charter and aircraft sales and management services.

The 4Aces is one of 13 teams competing in LIV Golf, the league which operates outside the more established PGA Tour and the DP World Tour.

Magellan Jets has introduced a series of changes to its jet card and membership programmes. The Boston-based operator said the move was aimed at making its offering more “customer-focused.”

Magellan Jets said it is leveraging its “asset-light business model, consistent profitability and year-over-year revenue growth” to make these client-focused changes.  It claims to offer rates that are now 20% to 40% below its competitors.

The private aviation market has opened back up, and Magellan’s client-centric program and robust infrastructure enable us to make these pivots on behalf of our customers,” said Joshua Herbert, CEO, Magellan Jets.

The new programme changes include lower initiation fees, renewal dues and lower hourly flight rates across all jet card programmes and memberships. It is also re-introducing its entry-level Light Jet Card, as well as making in-flight Wi-Fi available on its Phenom 300 Jet Card.

“These changes represent our commitment to helping customers navigate the evolving private aviation marketplace as trusted advocates,” said Anthony Tivnan, president and co-founder Magellan Jets.

Our operational stability, our efficiencies, investments in our supply chain, and our expanded network of partners all combine to allow us to reduce expenses while passing savings on to our customers.”

The Boston Red Sox baseball team and Massachusetts-based Magellan Jets have signed a multi-year sponsorship deal. The new partnership will see co-branded signage around the team’s Fenway Park (pictured) home, including inside the visiting team’s locker room.

Joshua Hebert, founder and CEO, Magellan Jets said he was excited to partner with the company’s local baseball team and a brand that he has “revered for his entire life.”

“Throughout our 15 years as a company, it’s always been important to us to be active in our Greater Boston community and this partnership represents that commitment,” said Herbet. “We’re excited to help both players and fans elevate their travel with our safe, reliable, purely private solutions.”

The private jet company has previous experience working with the Boston baseball community. It worked with baseball hall of famer David Ortiz and his Children’s Fund charity that helps young people in the Dominican Republic and New England receive cardiac care.

In 2022, Magellan Jets flew the Dominican baseball legend to his Hall of Fame induction ceremony and raised $144,000 to support The Red Sox Foundation and the David Ortiz Children’s Fund.

The Red Sox are proud to partner with Magellan Jets, a brand with a shared commitment with a demonstrated history of service to our community,” said Troup Parkinson, executive vice president, Partnerships, Boston Red Sox.

“As Magellan becomes a more visible brand around the ballpark, we look forward to collaborating on future initiatives and events that bolster the important work of the Red Sox Foundation.”

Boston-based charter company Magellan Jets has opened its first private jet terminal at Laurence G. Hanscom Field airport in Bedford, Massachusetts.

The 5,300sqft terminal is located on the southeast corner of the airport and will include VIP parking for Magellan Jets guests, a lounge area, a bar and an executive room.

Anthony Tivnan, president and co-founder, Magellan Jets told Corporate Jet Investor: “With the launch of our private terminal at Bedford Hanscom Field, one of our major hubs and in our backyard, it’s the perfect location to expand our service offering by adding aircraft sales, acquisitions and management to the platform of products.”

Tivnan added: “As we enter our 15th year of providing private aviation solutions, our growth has continued by working closely with our customers and providing innovative and value-based solutions for the different aspects of their aviation use.”

The opening of the new building will take place today (January 20th), to coincide with celebrating the company’s 15th anniversary.

Magellan is the latest in a string of companies opening private terminals to enhance their customers’ experience. Last year, FBO Signature Aviation partnered with PS, a private luxury terminal service, to bring a high-end offering to its VIP passengers, while Jet Linx opened a private jet terminal in Arizona.  Last week, fractional company Flexjet announced plans for three new private terminals in Miami, Montana and Arizona.

US-based Magellan Jets has announced it will offer refunds on unused jet cards to its members in a shake-up of the company’s offerings to meet increased demand.

The company has now made its jet card refundable to its jet card owners and new Explorer100 membership service, to “insulate them against economic uncertainty”, according to Magellan.

“We’ve seen hesitancy among companies and individuals around making large, multi-year investments right now without knowing what the impact could be months and years down the line,” said Anthony Tivnan, president and co-founder, Magellan Jets. “While other providers continue to lock their customers into multi-year agreements, we want to provide an additional layer of risk and recession proofing by allowing customers to recoup their unused investment if the need to pivot their business travel plans arises.”

Other changes include shorter scheduling call out times (48 hours or less), lower daily minimums of just one hour on light and mid-size jets, and fewer peak days with flights available 365 days a year.

Following a shift in the types of aircraft its customers are requesting, Magellan has tailored its jet card offerings to provide popularly requested aircraft similar to the Phenom 300, with bigger cabins and more baggage space. A new jet card, the super-midsize access jet card, has been launched to offer access to jets like the Cessna Citation Latitude, Dassault Flacon 50EX and Gulfstream G280.

Owners who purchase 50- or 100-hour jet cards will now receive additional perks, such as rate-locked extensions up to 18 months, the ability to use multiple aircraft per day, and in-flight catering allowance.

“As our programmes have grown, we have experienced some of the highest levels of volume we’ve ever seen combined with some of the biggest challenges in aviation history, and we’ve learned a lot about what our clients need in today’s re-opening market,” said Tivnan. “Everything we’re announcing is a direct result of our singular belief in listening to our customers’ needs.”

Magellan’s jet card clients will also now be guaranteed availability for flights in Europe, which will have fixed hourly rates, according to Private Jet Card Comparisons. The service covers most of Western Europe, with additional destinations covered at a 35% surcharge, varying by aircraft size. Magellan has also added popular international destinations such as Jamaica and the Cayman Islands.

The move by Magellan follows a pattern of other jet card providers matching supply to increasing demand. In January, Jet Linx announced it would resume its jet card membership sales on a limited basis, which had previously been suspended during the pandemic. April saw PrivateFly experience a 250% increase in jet card sales, while Priester Aviation last month announced its relaunch of its Centreline jet card in response to market demand.

Magellan Jets is forecasting a $35m increase in annual revenue to reach $115m this year. Last year the charter company posted annual revenues of $80m.

Anthony Tivnan, President of Magellan Jets, told CJI. “We believe this to be a very conservative number for us in 2022. Client retention and re-orders will remain a leading key performance indicator for our services teams. We also are looking at very predictable forecast models based on the number of hours sold and new memberships and charter accounts added in 2021.”

The company has invested heavily in technology and infrastructure that Tivnan says is a key factor in their growth in revenue. “We have  developed an easy, effective and efficient platform to get our company closer to our customer, closer to our owners and create a loyalty-generating experience.” He said.  “The ability to complete transactions with stored data, preferences, and profiles not only saves time, but also reduces the margin for error. The applications we’ve built for internal use are not only connecting our customers with our colleagues, but also cross departmentally as well.”

Magellan Jets launched a membership product in the third quarter (Q3) of 2020 in direct response to the new market the firm encountered, “much of it motivated by the pandemic”, added Tivnan. Last year the Boston-based company achieved a 434% increase in membership.

“The ability to adapt and manoeuvre through many unforeseen and changing circumstances was important for all of us in 2021. Flight scheduling, contingency planning, and the openness to make changes to our programmes and communicate them with our customers was very different than I’ve seen in all my years in aviation,” said Tivnan.

Magellan Jets CEO, Joshua Hebert, said the company’s growth this year is a direct result of its “seasoned staff” and owner-operator partners working together to exceed customer expectations. “The challenges we faced—unprecedented demand, ongoing pandemic, supply chain crisis—are the same problems facing the entire private aviation industry, but Magellan has been able to stand out and succeed by tailoring ourselves to customers’ needs and over communicating every step of the way,” he said.

Magellan Jets has released a sustainability roadmap which aims to see the company committing to flights 100% powered by sustainable fuel sources by 2030 and is striving to offer 100% carbon-zero flights by 2040.

To accomplish this, Magellan is buildingits carbon offset capabilities, directing purchasing power toward sustainable aviation fuels and acquiring and managing alternatively-powered aircraft as they become technologically viable.

“Magellan Jets is the industry leader in sustainable travel, representing our clients in advancing safety, superior unit economics, and green legacy solutions in business aviation,” said Magellan Jets chief operating officer, Todd Weeber. “The actions laid out in this roadmap will fulfill our mission of progressing toward globally recognised milestones on the path to responsible, carbon-zero operations and make safer, smarter, more sustainable travel a reality for all of our guests.”

Road map – at a glance

Offering carbon offset option on all flights

Through a partnership with offset company Terrapass, Magellan clients can carbon offset their aviation portfolio in any amount that can be measured, and that the client deems necessary –ncluding offsetting flights not arranged by Magellan.

Joining leading industry groups

By joining the United Nations Global Compact and key industry groups focused on advancing environmental goals, Magellan hopes to establish a viable framework, working alongside governments, for accountability in advancing sustainable aviation solutions.

Focusing on sustainable aviation fuels

Magellan has begun working with operators based on their use of sustainable aviation fuels (SAFs), – greener alternatives to fossil jet fuels that are produced using sustainable feedstocks.

Vetting, acquiring and managing alternatively-powered aircraft

Finally the company is selecting manufacturers in order to acquire alternatively-powered aircraft as they become technologically viable. The company is vetting those manufacturers based on the safety, cost efficiency, mechanical reliability and environmental impact of the aircraft and will establish a network of new, sustainable aircraft to replace existing fossil fuel-powered assets.
